Modern Foreign Languages

Students sitting their GCSE exams from Summer 2026 onwards will be following a new specification GCSE exam for Modern Foreign Languages. You can find more information about the specifications on the Edexcel website:

There are tiered entries for MFL. Foundation (Grades 5-1) and Higher (Grades 9-3). Regardless of tier entry, students will sit four exams for their GCSE:

  • Paper 1 (Speaking)  – The Speaking Exam is always the first exam, taking place just after the Easter holidays. Specific dates will be communicated nearer the time. The most important and effective way to revise for this is by learning the cue cards, which your child will have prepared in class. All cards need to be learned for the exam. Students who learn these cards thoroughly achieve higher marks in both the Speaking and Writing papers.
  • Paper 2 (Listening) – Use resources in the relevant SharePoint folder, and resources on the relevant Padlet
  • Paper 3 (Reading) – Use resources in the relevant SharePoint folder, and resources on the relevant Padlet
  • Paper 4 (Writing)use resources in the relevant SharePoint folder, and resources on the relevant Padlet

Useful Revision Folders:
GCSE German 2026 Sharepoint Revision Folder
GCSE French 2026 Sharepoint Revision Folder

We also have Padlet pages with lots of useful revision resources:

Please encourage your child to bring in any revision done at home to be marked.
