Form Time Numeracy now takes place with Years 7 and 8 once a week. We are using Times Tables Rockstars where students are challenged in restricted time to answer as many times tables and division questions as they can.
All students have been shown the online site. Times Tables Rockstars and asked to download the app to their mobile devices to help in practice for the forthcoming weekly challenge, which form teachers set following the programme put together by the Maths department. In getting students to use a variety of mental strategies to work solutions to problems set outside the Maths classroom, we aim to encourage better understanding.
The numeracy challenges contribute to the College points that, in turn, bring some element of challenge and contribution from every student alongside being a component in developing good numeracy skills.
Form Time Numeracy now extends into Years 9 and 10, with a problem-solving approach. A weekly problem-solving challenge is presented to each form group to promote Mathematical thinking and discussion. This also develops problem-solving skills in our learners, to assist the new-style GSCE.
