A Young Carer is a person under 18 who provides, or intends to provide, care for a family member because of a disability, illness, mental health condition or substance misuse. They often take on practical and/or emotional caring responsibilities that would normally be expected of an adult.
Here at Alsager School we know that Young Carers can experience particular challenges and demands that can impact their capacity to enjoy and achieve at school. We have Young Carer School Champions that offer signposting and support internally and externally and if you or your child wants to access this please do let us know.
We were delighted to be awarded the Cheshire Young Carers Gold School Award in November 2025. The accolade celebrates our commitment to supporting pupils who are young carers – ensuring they feel seen, supported, and empowered every day
