Have you ever considered becoming a School Community Governor?
The local governing body of Alsager School, part of Alsager Multi Academy Trust have a vacancy for a community governor and are looking to recruit an individual with the skills, enthusiasm and experience who would like to volunteer their time in supporting the young people in our school. The board is made up of a combination of staff/community and parent governors and as we have full parent governor representation, parent/carers of the school should not apply.
AMAT is a 3-school Trust based in Cheshire. We pride ourselves on our strong ethical values and collaborate ethos.
Experience in any of the following areas below would be desirable:
- Finance and Accounting
- Business and Marketing
- Leading in the education sector
- Safeguarding and Child protection
- Property & Estates Management
Being a school governor is a hugely rewarding role. You’ll attend approximately 4 full board meetings each academic year along with 5-6 sub-committee meetings. Governors review the strategic aims and objectives of the school, monitoring and evaluating the progress the school is making towards its aims by providing effective support and challenge to the Head of School and the Senior Leadership Team. They also bring valuable insights and ideas from their own experiences that enrich our school.

Please note, that any interested candidates must meet with the Head of school (prior to making an application) along with a member of the governing body. Dates to meet with the Head of School (Mrs O’Neill) are: 25/1/22 at 3:30pm, 26/1/22 at 8:00am and 27/1/22 at 4:00pm. Interested candidates are also advised that our governing board have adopted a Code of Conduct and once adopted all members agree to faithfully abide by it. This would also apply to any new governors who join the board. The code will be made available to interested candidates when they meet with the Head of school.
Following this, if candidates are then still interested, they will need to formally apply for the position by completing an application form via the following link: https://forms.office.com/r/wYXGm1zLhh and explain why they feel they would be suitable for the role as well as supplying two references. Deadline for receipt of applications is 15:30pm on 4/2/22. Successful candidates will then have a short interview at school before the board vote to elect. All newly appointed governors will also be required to have a DBS check if appointed.
