We recently hosted a Year 10 Careers Focus Day where students were able to choose from a wide variety of guest speaker sessions, ranging from large companies to small businesses as well as local universities and apprenticeship providers. The selection was based on a student questionnaire completed earlier in the year regarding their future career choices and aspirations.
As a result sessions were run on the day from sectors such as teaching and child care to law, engineering, IT and acting. Participants involved in making the day a success were South Cheshire and Reaseheath Colleges running sessions from Make-up to Adventure Sports and Animal Care, MMU and Keele Universities; Crewe Soccer School, Cheshire Police, NHS, KMF Engineering, Bentley Motors Ltd, the Army, Changing Education, Whizz Kids, New Vic Theatre, L&R Roadlines, Poole Alcock Solicitors, Escalla, AD Modular and The County Group (Insurance). Students wore business-wear clothes and each had their own personalised itinerary for the day. They were able to attend three of the career focus sessions based on their choices as well as participating in either a CV Masterclass, an
Assessment Centre activity or an interview techniques session to help prepare them for Year 11 and beyond. It was a very busy day for all involved, and the schools evaluation shows that it was an extremely valuable experience for students and gave them a great insight in to the opportunities on offer to them in the future.
