GCSE and A-Level Results

GCSE and A-Level Results

Please note, that as you will be aware, public exams were cancelled in 2020 and results determined by a mixture of centre (school) assessed grades and complex algorithms.

As a school and sixth form college we have maintained our annual high averages in key measures both across GCSE and A-Level results. We are proud that an overwhelming majority of our students achieved the grades they needed to access the next stage of their education including their first or second place university. These results have undoubtedly helped all our students achieve their aspirations.

Like other local schools we have decided not to publish our results for 2020 as there are no reliable national or local comparisons available. If you would like more information please contact the school.

Explanation Notes.

At KS4, Progress 8 measures how well students of all abilities have performed in our school compared to students with the same academic starting point across all other schools in the country. A score above zero means students, on average, made more progress than similar students nationally. Each year the average national Progress 8 score is close to zero, meaning students achieved what was expected.

You may wish to watch the following short video produced by the DFE further explaining Progress 8: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4IAEgFMSGDY

Attainment 8 is the average total points score for our school when adding up the best counting eight grades for each student. Note: The points for each qualification has changed each year from 2015-2018, so they are not directly comparable.

To be eligible for the EBacc, a student must sit English Language; English Literature; Mathematics; Single Sciences or Combined Science; either History or Geography and a Modern Foreign Language at GCSE.

At KS5, the A-Level Progress score or “value added” figure measures how much progress students at Alsager Sixth Form College made between the end of key stage 4 and the completion of their A-level studies compared to students with the same results across the country. A score above zero means students, on average, made more progress than students with similar GCSE grades nationally.
