What a great week we have had with Sports Week! It was brilliant to see so many pupils getting stuck in and enjoying the activities.
It also feels like a big weekend for sport all round, with the Scottish Open for the golf fans, the small matter of England versus Norway, and potential British interest in the Wimbledon final.
We had prom this week, which was such a lovely evening. It was really nice to see so many parents there at the start, taking photos and enjoying that special moment before everyone headed in. There were some beautiful dresses and suits, lots of smiles, and some genuinely great dancing too!
We have Sports Day on Monday morning to look forward to next week. We have decided to run it in the morning rather than the afternoon because it is likely to be very warm, and there is not much shade on the field. Hopefully this will help everyone enjoy it a bit more comfortably. College points are still very much up for grabs, and it is exceptionally close between all four colleges. We will announce the overall winners next Thursday at our end-of-year celebration. On Sports Day, we will also announce our Head Students to the rest of the school. Their campaigns were all great, and the results were very close.
The ice cream van is still coming too. It is cash only, so if your child can face a Mr Whippy for breakfast, please remind them to bring some cash!
Please could you also have a quick check of canteen accounts and top them up where needed? Quite a few are currently overdrawn.
One quick plea from us: we have had a bit of a run of pupils throwing water over each other. We do understand that everyone is hot, but this is not really what we expect in school. Please could you remind your child to use water sensibly and not soak anyone else. 5
I know that many parents in Rode Heath are understandably frustrated about the changes to the bus service. Please be assured that I have been in communication with our local MP to see whether she can support us in trying to reverse the decision. However, if this is not possible, and you would be interested in paying for an annual bus pass, please contact rodeheathbus@alsagerschool.org with your name, your child’s name and your contact details. If there is enough interest, we will liaise with bus companies to explore what may be possible.
As it looks like the warm weather is sticking around next week, pupils can continue to come to school in PE kit. Please do encourage them to bring a refillable water bottle. We have water stations around school, free water in the canteen, and bottles available to buy if needed. Pupils should use break and lunchtime to fill bottles up so they are ready for lessons. It is all a bit more advanced than school in the 1980s, when the tap in the toilets was pretty much the whole hydration plan!
At our end-of-year celebration on Thursday, we will have prize draws taking place, with a grand prize of either a PlayStation or an Xbox. The winner will get to choose. There will also be vouchers to be won. Pupils do need to be in school to be able to win, so it is definitely worth being here. On Thursday, we will finish at 12:25, and Period 3 will be celebrations in form.
Thank you, as always, for your support and whatever your plans, have a lovely weekend.
