GCSE/BTEC AWARD WINNERS 2017

Alsager School’s class of 2017 celebrated their remarkable GCSE successes at Christ Church, Alsager on Wednesday 13th December.
In addition to students receiving their exam certificates numerous awards were given out for students who had shown real endeavour throughout their time at Alsager; for students who had experienced great success in a particular subject or who had made fantastic progress in their GCSE subjects.
The class of 2017 was an exceptional year group and staff had difficult decisions to make in
nominating students for special awards. 2017 saw the introduction of new style GCSEs for English and maths with a change to the grading system. Rather than the A*-G students were awarded 9-1 in those subjects. The students maintained the school’s recent history of achieving a high pass rate in 5 or more A*-C grades in GCSEs (including English and Maths), with 74% of the year group achieving this. The overall results put this cohort of students in the top 30% of school nationally – an amazing achievement.
The guest speaker for the event was Maddy Gregory, who is a former student of the school. Maddy is currently studying at the British and Irish Institute for Music (BIIM) in Manchester and will then pursue a career in the music industry. Maddy performs under the name Maddy Storm – she will definitely be one to watch! Andrea O’Neill, Deputy Head teacher said: “It really was an enjoyable afternoon and lovely to be able to celebrate these successes with students, parents and staff. The students worked so hard and their efforts were rewarded with fantastic results”.
