Year 9 students competed in their own WW1 Thank You Poetry competition supported by the Rotary Club of Alsager. The finalists from each class were invited to a tea party as the winners were announced. Ian Macpherson, from Alsager Rotary, said: “The standard of the poetry was impressive. They managed to write excellent structured poetry to convey the suffering of both the soldiers and their next of kin”. All finalists received congratulations and a certificate from Richard Middlebrook, Executive Headteacher, and members of Alsager Rotary Club. Three prize winners were awarded with a cheque and four runners up received vouchers to spend at the school book fair. Some of these poems were on display in the Alsager Civic Centre as part of the centenary celebrations.
