UK School Library Award

Announcement

We are delighted that our LRC (Learning Resource Centre) is the first school library in Cheshire East, and only 1 of 30 nationally, to be awarded a Gold Standard in the SLS – UK School Library Award. Schools Library Service (SLS) regulate the national self-assessment process for schools to note their level of achievement in providing library facilities, their library’s commitment to supporting teaching and learning and reading for pleasure.

Our LRC celebrated its’ 20th Anniversary in October last year, when students took part in a variety of activities to remember the history of the development of the LRC and to recognise and celebrate the LRC as a valuable and beneficial resource to the school. Students from ages 11-18 use the LRC to complete homework, private study and read for pleasure daily, as well as regular reading lessons for years 7-8, and is an asset which is very much used and appreciated.

Mr Middlebrook said “This is a fantastic achievement for our LRC and the staff and students involved in running it. Our LRC is a real ‘jewel in the crown’ for us at Alsager, very few schools have such a vibrant, busy, well resourced and well managed library. This award is richly deserved and I must publicly thank Mrs Griffiths and Mrs Downey for all their hard work in leading our LRC, along with the large team of students (past and present) who help run this brilliant facility.”
