This term, 9 year 7 students have been taking part in an exciting new literacy programme, ‘The Skills Academy’. This 10-week programme has been developed by the National Literacy Trust to combine students’ love of football with improving literacy skills.
The Skills Academy focuses on the five core reading comprehension skills of questioning, clarifying, summarising, predicting and inference. The boys have worked incredibly hard in sessions to improve their literacy and football skills and were rewarded with a recent trip to Port Vale stadium. They were given the opportunity to meet the players, have a tour of the stadium, watch the players train in their new kit and completed some literacy and sports activities as well.
They were a credit to the school and the Port Vale staff were very impressed by the new skills they have developed.
