SPIRIT WEEK 2019

Students had unique and exciting opportunities to demonstrate the SPIRIT values through many different activities designed to develop new skills. We have seen them undertake lots of exciting activities, and challenges, that they would not normally have the opportunity to do in the typical school day.

During SPIRIT WEEK there were an array of activities available, either within school or as external trips, ranging from Rugby Union with a coach from Crewe and Nantwich Rugby Club, to Archery with the Alsager Scout Group, to our very own rock school, Cake Pops kitchen and designing hats in the ‘Mad Hatters’ Tea Party. Students created a Photography exhibition based on the landscape and wildlife of Alsager, while some worked with local makeup artist, Jody, on a Make Up and Special Effects Masterclass or created bespoke jewellery with Alsager’s local Beading Amazing team. Externally, students visited the Catalyst Science Discovery Centre in Widnes, went Ice Skating, Skiing, visited the Lego Innovation Studio, navigated the Peak District, captured the flag whilst orienteering at Brereton, visited the Blue John Cavern in Castleton, played golf, or designed a clay mask at Gladstone Pottery Museum.  Alongside these day trips, some students went on the London Theatre Trip, where pupils watched School of Rock and Phantom of the Opera, meanwhile, some Year 9 students visited Poland with a moving visit to Auschwitz.

SPIRIT Enrichment Leader Mr Smart said “SPIRIT Week 2019 has been a huge success. Students have had a great week as they have participated in activities that have allowed them to develop and gain new skills. So many students have shown an enthusiasm to get involved, help others and demonstrate the values of SPIRIT. It was so pleasing to hear such positive feedback from students, staff and parents, with so many students finishing each day with a sense of joy, fulfilment and accomplishment. We have had tremendous feedback from the public complimenting our students on their conduct whilst at various visits in the local area”

Pupils in year 7 loved their first SPIRIT week, they said “SPIRIT week was so much fun. We got to do so many different things. The walk was my favourite part, especially getting to look at the views, I didn’t expect it to be so much fun!” Other years commented “fishing was brilliant; it was great getting to learn lots of new skills and be with our friends”.
