SPIRIT WEEK PRESS RELEASE 2018
Alsager School saw a first in July with pupils participating in ‘SPIRIT WEEK’. A unique and exciting opportunity for their students to demonstrate the SPIRIT values through many different activities designed to develop new skills, experience fresh and exciting activities and undertake challenges that they would not normally have the opportunity to do in a normal school day.
The purpose of SPIRIT Enrichment is to enable students to engage with skills, ideas and activities, which they can see have an immediate link with the world outside of school as well as in. Hopefully these experiences will stimulate new interests whilst enhancing the skills that will set them up for life. During SPIRIT WEEK there was a vast range of activities available, either within school or as external trips, ranging from American Football with Crewe Railroaders Youth Team, Archery with Alsager Scout Group, creating a Photography exhibition based on the landscape and wildlife of Alsager and working with local makeup artist Jody on a Make Up and Special Effects Masterclass. Externally, visiting Jodrell Bank, Ice Skating, Skiing, navigating the Peak District and taking am Art Deco Plate workshop at Gladstone Pottery Museum. Alongside these day trips, students also had the opportunity to go on London Theatre Trip, where pupils watched Aladdin and The Lion King, also a trip to Barcelona to experience Spanish culture and all the city has to offer.
SPIRIT Enrichment leader Miss Taylor said “SPIRIT Week 2018 has been fabulous, it is has given all students the opportunity to experience new and exciting activities outside of the classroom. There has been an outstanding amount of positive feedback from students, staff and parents, which suggests that students fully appreciate this unique opportunity they receive at Alsager School to engage in such activities leaves them with a sense of fulfilment, pride and happiness.”
Pupils in year 7 have said “SPIRIT was amazing, we enjoyed it so much because it was our first time experiencing the week. We loved walking in the Peak District, even though we were dreading it at first due to it being so long but the walk was great, we loved seeing the scenery of the Peak District.” Other pupils have commented “SPIRIT was brilliant, we could try new activities like Skiing and Make Up Artistry, make new friends and learn lots of new skills! We are already looking forward to SPIRIT 2019”.
