As a part of Safer Internet week, this week’s SPIRIT lesson explored 2021’s Safer Internet Day’s Theme of ‘An internet we can trust, exploring reliability in the online world.’ Throughout the lesson students took part in group discussion in the ‘news and qs’ section of the lesson, where they debated reliability of different sources such as; newspaper articles, headlines and social media posts. The students also watched two short films focusing on how to use the internet safely and to understand what you can and cannot trust in the online world. Finally, the students created a new ‘contract/rule book’ which they believe all companies and social media influencers must adhere to before posting/advertising online. For example: No photos can be edited, You cannot advertise and promote a product that you wouldn’t actually use.
