The Pupil Premium Awards.
We are celebrating further national recognition of our outstanding achievement after being named as a finalist in The Pupil Premium Awards for 2015. As a result we have been awarded a cash prize of £5000. Alsager has been shortlisted, along with a handful of other schools in the north west of England, due to being one of the most improved schools in the country in terms of the achievement of disadvantaged pupils. Schools receive ring fenced money from the government, called the Pupil Premium, to support and raise the achievement of young people who are classed as disadvantaged. We have been highlighted, based on our GCSE results for the last 3 years, as making a real difference to these young people and preparing them well for the future. The overall national winner will be announced in London in late March, there is a prize of £250,000 for the winning school.
Mr Middlebrook said we are delighted that all the hard work put in by staff, pupils and parents / carers over the last 3 years has been formally recognised and applauded. It is always nice to get a pat on the back for the effort we have all put in. Here at Alsager we do our utmost to support every young person to achieve their full potential. We all have our fingers crossed for the overall national winner in March!
