Maths teacher, Mrs Watts, has recently returned from a trip to Shanghai as part of an exchange program available to all Maths Hub Leads. Maths Hubs is a nationwide network of Maths teachers and trainers working together, funded by the DfE, to raise standards in Maths across the country.
Alsager was recently designated by the DfE as an Assistant Maths Hub Lead School. This is a fantastic achievement for our school and is testimony to the brilliant Maths teaching and results we achieve here.
She observed how pupils learnt by the whole class working together to solve problems rather than being taught the answer, instead of practicing a skill they learn it and then immediately start applying it in a series of problem solving contexts. Time was also spent with teachers in their monthly Professional Development sessions.
Of her experience, Mrs Watts said: “It was an amazing once in a lifetime experience which will change the way I plan and teach lessons forever. I am really looking forward to sharing what I have learnt with other Maths teachers in the future”.
