GCSE/BTEC AWARD WINNERS 2018

Our class of 2018 recently celebrated their exceptional GCSE and BTEC successes at Christ Church.

Alongside students receiving their GCSE certificates, a variety of special awards were presented to students who had shown exemplary determination and endeavour throughout their journey at Alsager. Students who demonstrated great dexterity within their subjects, made the most progress, and achieved remarkable successes were particularly commended for their achievements.

The class of 2018 was an outstanding year group, making nominations for these awards a difficult decision for members of staff. This year group in particular faced a number of challenges with the new and far more challenging GCSE qualifications; these new methods of assessment and the increased level of difficulty cannot be compared to previous years. The students, however, responded fantastically with 91% of students achieving a GCSE ‘pass’ in English and 82% in Maths. There were a huge number of students achieving the very top grades in these tougher GCSES which are graded 1-9. In Physics, for example, 38% of all grades were 9 or 8. These are amazing achievements.

The guest speaker for the event was Michael Potts who spoke about his inspiring journey to success in the medical profession and the way in which the education he received at Alsager School built a platform from which he could pursue his dreams. His words were very inspiring and showed the students that through hard-work, anything is possible.

Mrs O’Neill said: “These events are very special. It was a wonderful way to celebrate all of the hard work of an exceptional year group and lovely that so many parents and carers were also able to attend.”
