Alsager School Celebrates Outstanding Results in National Secondary School Performance Tables

The national secondary school performance tables for 2017 were released earlier this week and Alsager School was right at the top in Cheshire East!

All secondary schools are now judged on a key measure called ‘Progress 8’. This is based upon the GCSE results each student achieves in 8 core subjects. Under government guidelines, each student has a predicted GCSE grade for each subject based on their ability (calculated from their year 6 SATS scores). Secondary schools are then judged on how much progress each child makes based on their ability, a positive Progress 8 score means students achieved better grades at GCSE than their ability suggests and the school is adding value, a negative score means the opposite.

Alsager’s score was announced this week as +0.31. This means pupils at Alsager achieve a third of a grade higher at GCSE than their ability suggests! The school is adding real value and puts it right at the top of all local schools! Based on this, Alsager in the top 30% of all schools nationally. A fantastic achievement!

Mr Middlebrook said “I am absolutely delighted with our Progress 8 score which was released this week. It shows the quality of education provided here at Alsager and the fact that we ensure our young people do not see any limits to their aspirations and goals. I am so pleased that all the hard work put in by our talented staff, hard-working students and supportive parents / carers has been recognised nationally. Well done to everyone at team Alsager!”
