GCSE Results

We are celebrating another year of outstanding GCSE and BTEC results reflecting the hard work of our students and staff.   This was the second year where the majority of subjects were graded under the new system of 9-1 and many students hit the top grades.  An amazing 113 grades in total were grade 9; 35% of students achieved a 7 or above in English and 27% achieved a 7 or above in Maths.  English and Maths results were very strong again this year with 89% achieving a standard pass or above in English and 81% achieving the equivalent in Maths.

There was notable success in many subjects.  In PE 91% of students achieved a 4 or above; in Spanish 95% achieved a 4 or above; in German the figure was 82% and in Graphics and Music the figures were equally impressive with 88% and 87% gaining the standard pass or higher, respectively.

Head of School, Mrs O’Neill said: “The students have worked extremely hard; these new GCSEs are tough and require real resilience from the students.  We are really proud of our students and the work ethic that they have shown, and it is always a delight to see their happy faces on results day when they see that their hard work has paid off.  We are fortunate at Alsager School to have such an outstanding staff who have worked tirelessly with our students and such supportive parents and carers. The class of 2019 has been a delight to work with and everyone here wishes them every success for their future.  We hope to see many of them back in our sixth form, which celebrated fantastic results last week”.

In addition to the success in many subjects, there were some key individual successes.  Evelyn Lees and Aoife Sutch both achieved an amazing 8 grade 9s and 1 8.  Jacob Johnson achieved 7 9s, 1 grade 8 and 1 grade 7, closely followed by James Baker who achieved an amazing 6 grade 9s, 2 8s and 1 grade 7.  George Cook, who has a severe hearing impairment achieved a fantastic set of results: 1 grade 9, 3 grade 8s, 1 grade 6, 2 grade 5s and 1 grade 4.  Throughout his time at Alsager School, George and his family have worked closely with the SEN department and they were all there on the day to celebrate his success.

Alongside fantastic GCSE results, pupils were also very successful in a selection of vocational courses and pathways ranging from Turf Management to Motor Vehicle to IT.  They are all now ready for the world of work and further study and should be very proud of themselves.  Standing out were Hasan Altunel who excelled in Construction, Emma Dean, Harvey Corbett-Luinen, Josh Porter and Walden Dale who all excelled in Animal Management and Ethan Conkie who excelled in Food Manufacturing; all at Reaseheath College.  Also standing out on their work placements through Changing Education were Ryan Jones, George Cook and Kyle Sutherland & Millie Robinson, Gwen Nichols, Anya Tucker and Madison Woodcock through Total People.  All have received offers from Alsager Sixth Form College, local colleges or training providers and are looking forward to the next stage of their lifelong learning.

Alsager School offers support to any students who need advice and guidance over the coming weeks. In addition places are still available for anyone who does not have a post 16 course secured for September 2019 and would like to join our exceptionally high performing college.
