Young Engineer’s Competition

Huge congratulations to our year 10 Design and Technology students were offered the opportunity to be a part of the annual Young Engineer’s competition organised and run by KMF Sheet Metal.

This year the competition was run in conjunction with the First Lego League and Newcastle under Lyme College. Students from across 25 schools worked throughout the year building EV3 robots and programming then to complete tasks to gather points for the robotic games section of the competition. Additional to this the students were expected to complete three additional tasks to demonstrate their team working skills, presentation and design skills.

During the final our team secured first place in both the core values section of the competition and in the robot games. Due to different points being allocated for the different challenges, they secured third place overall.

Miss Salt, Design & Technology teacher, said: “The students demonstrated high levels of skill throughout the competition and worked together to overcome many challenges on the way. They worked well with our sponsors and four of these pupils were given the opportunity of work experience with Air Products, Crewe due to their fantastic performance throughout the competition. It has been a fantastic year once again and our Young Engineer’s done our school proud”.
