Following on from our ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted grading earlier this year, we are now celebrating a brilliant set of GCSE results. The class of 2016 have performed exceptionally well and achieved some superb grades. 70% of pupils achieved 5 A- C including English and mathematics. In both English and maths 78% of pupils gained grades A*-C. Other successes included French, Further Maths and Media Studies in which 100% of all grades were A*-C, Physics 98%, both Biology and Chemistry 97% and German 96%. A staggering quarter of all the GCSE grades achieved were either at A*/A grade and a quarter of the cohort gaining 5 or more grades A*/A. Across the board many students exceeded their targets and made way above ‘expected progress’ based on their ability. The provisional ‘Progress 8’ figure (the new national measurement for all schools introduced by the government this year) is also a very impressive +0.1.
Outstanding individual performers include; Elena Steiner who achieved 14 A*s, Amy Wyatt gained 10 A*s and 3 A’s, Mollie Brown with 9 A*s and 4 A’s, George Flanders secured 8 A*s, 4 A’s and 1 B and Aidan Clare who achieved 7 A*s, 5 A’s and 1 B.
Alongside fantastic GCSE results, pupils were also very successful in a selection of vocational courses ranging from Light Vehicle Maintenance to Agriculture. They are all now ready for the world of work and further study and should be very proud of themselves. Standing out were Joe Ball and Tom Cartledge, who both achieved their City & Guilds Level 1 Diploma in Land Based Studies and Joe Betley and Josh Steele, who achieved their IMI Certificate in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, all at Reaseheath College. All have secured places at Alsager Sixth Form College or Reaseheath College to further their studies.
It is always a real pleasure to see so many tense and nervous faces turn into happy, smiling and relieved ones as the class of 2016 opened their results and celebrated with family, friends and teachers. All the staff were celebrating too.
Headteacher, Mr Middlebrook, said: “We are absolutely delighted with these superb results which are the result of hard work from both pupils and staff, together with the support of parents and carers. What is most pleasing is the huge numbers of pupils who exceeded their targets and made massive progress during their time here at Alsager. All this has been achieved during a period of huge national change and turbulence in terms of education policy. I think all staff and students should be praised for coping with so many external changes and focusing on their own personal goals and targets. Our congratulations to the outstanding class of 2016 and we look forward to welcoming them into our fantastic Sixth Form who celebrated great results last week too”.
Our 6th Form College still have places available for those students who do not yet have a post 16 course secured for September 2016. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or telephone 01270 871122 for more information.
