Drive Survive

As part of the personal safety section of our post 16 enrichment programme year 12 students recently took part in a training day designed to increase their awareness and understanding of the impact of dangerous driving.

The use of 360 degree interactive goggles was a highlight of the Drive Survive event. The student who donned the goggles had a firsthand experience of what is was like to be involved in a car crash whilst the other students watched via a screen. Eion Anderson from the Road Policing Unit, who ran the event, also gave the students lots of useful information about owning a car, learning to drive and staying safe in a car as a driver or as a passenger.

The session finished with a very personal account from a father who had lost his son in a car accident. He explained that he shared his story to help prevent other people experiencing the same. The students were then invited to see the car that had been involved in the accident and which is now used by Cheshire Police as the ‘Think car’ to promote safe driving.

The students gained a lot from the day and felt that they would be safer drivers as a result of it.
