Since March, nine students have shadowed the CILIP Carnegie Children’s Book Awards by reading the awards shortlisted books. The shadowing group was set up to encourage students to read for enjoyment and to further improve literacy skills in order that attainment can be sustained and further enhanced.
The students have created their own Shadowing website which includes book reviews, a blog, vote barometer, spotlight on an author and a video. To view this go on http://www.carnegiegreenaway.org.uk/grouphomepages/index.php?GroupID=11802 .
As part of the project they created a magazine to share their experience of shadowing the awards and to encourage other students to visit their web page.
Students who have been involved in this project have thoroughly enjoyed reviewing the shortlisted books, books which include numerous contemporary social issues and a variety of writing techniques.
If you follow http://www.carnegiegreenaway.org.uk/ you can go on to to the main Award web site and see details of the winner………..being “One” by Sarah Crossan! A heart wrenching story about conjoined twins. This book was most popular with a number of our Shadowing Group members.
