Alsager and Mr Whitmarsh shortlisted for National Teaching Awards

We are delighted to announce that Alsager and Mr Whitmarsh have been shortlisted for ‘The Award for the Outstanding use of Technology in Education’ in the Pearson National Teaching Awards for 2018. This is a fantastic achievement as it covers all schools in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The nomination is for the brilliant and innovative work Mr Whitmarsh, the school and many of our students have done and are doing using Microsoft ‘Sway’ to support people in the community living with dementia.

The innovative and collaborative project involves Alsager students being paired with members of the community who are living with dementia in a series of art workshops to create an interactive Life Story that can be used at home to help with reminiscence. Mr Whitmarsh and our young people worked with Alsager Partnership and Microsoft to help raise awareness and an understanding of dementia among students, in addition to helping people living with dementia in the community.

The project also supported Alsager’s successful bid to become the first Dementia Friendly Town in Cheshire East. Alsager is now also a dementia friendly school, with every student experiencing a dementia awareness assembly from Alsager Partnership, receiving a ‘Dementia Friend’ pledge card and lapel badge.
